We prepared the ground and laid fresh turf right up to the driveway and the stone border, cutting a clean circle around the tree. As normal, we came back to give it its first cut and make sure everything was as it should be.

Your Turfing Questions, Answered

The best time is September to October or March to April, when the ground is workable and temperatures are mild. Autumn turf establishes roots before winter dormancy and needs less watering. Avoid laying turf during summer heat or hard frost.
Initial rooting takes 2 to 3 weeks. It can take light foot traffic from week 6. A full season of growth is needed before it matches an established lawn.
Turfing is priced by the square metre, and the honest answer is that preparation drives the cost more than the turf itself. A lawn that needs old grass stripped, levels corrected or drainage sorted costs more than a simple relay on good ground. We measure up at a free site visit and confirm your price there and then, with the first cut included. No obligation and no chasing.
Keep off it completely for the first 2 weeks, then light use from week 3 and normal use from week 6.
Usually two to three weeks after laying, once the turf has rooted in. The test is simple: lift a corner gently, and if it resists, the roots have taken and it is safe to cut on a high setting. We include the first cut with every lawn we lay, so you do not need to judge it yourself.
Yes. The existing grass and weeds are stripped back to bare soil, the ground is levelled and lightly cultivated, then the new turf is laid. Skipping this step is the most common cause of turf failing to take.
