Lawn Care in Bonnyrigg

What You Need To Know About Lawn Care In Bonnyrigg

Bonnyrigg has grown quickly, and the lawns tell the story. The established streets around the town centre have mature gardens with decent soil and the usual moss-in-the-shade issues, while the newer estates at Hopefield and the southern edge sit on ground that was compacted hard by construction traffic and topped with a thin layer of soil.

Those two kinds of lawn need different work. Established lawns respond to scarifying, feeding and sensible mowing heights. New-build lawns usually need aeration first, because water cannot move through the packed ground underneath, and no amount of feed fixes a lawn that is sitting in a puddle.

Bonnyrigg is a couple of minutes from our base, so it is on the same rounds as Dalkeith and Eskbank. Treatment visits, regular mowing or a one-off renovation are all easy to slot in, and we can usually look at a problem lawn within the week.

What’s Included

Everything Your Lawn Needs

Build the plan around what your lawn actually needs. Most customers are on the regular treatment and maintenance plan; renovations and one-off fixes are priced after a quick look.

  • Fertilisation & Nutrition

Seasonal fertilisers applied at the right time of year to feed your lawn and promote strong, healthy root growth from the ground up.

  • Weed & Moss Control

Targeted treatments to tackle common lawn weeds and suppress moss growth, applied at the right points throughout the year.

  • Scarification

Mechanical removal of thatch and moss buildup that chokes your grass. Essential for any lawn that has gone without treatment for a season or more.

  • Aeration

Core and spike aeration to relieve compaction, improve drainage, and allow nutrients to reach the root zone more effectively.

  • Overseeding

Seeding of thin, worn, or bare patches to restore density and give your lawn an even, consistent finish across the whole surface area.

  • Soil Conditioning

Topdressing and soil treatment to improve the growing environment beneath the surface, tailored to your specific soil type and condition.

Lawn Care advice

Davie’s Advice before you spend a penny

What Davie tells every customer, whether they book us or not. Free to ignore, but he’s usually right.

  1. Mow little and often.

Never take more than a third off in one cut.

  2. Moss is a symptom, not bad luck.

Unless shade and compaction are dealt with, it comes back.

  3. Water deeply and rarely.

A daily sprinkle grows shallow roots.

  4. Don't feed a stressed lawn.

Fertiliser in a drought does more harm than good.

  5. Sharpen your blades.

Blunt ones tear the grass and it browns at the tips. Or let us worry about it.

  6. Autumn is when good lawns are made.

Scarify, aerate and overseed while the soil is still warm.

Got a question these don't cover? Ask Davie. He answers everything himself.

What Bonnyrigg Folk Say About Us

Real reviews from Lawn Care customers around Edinburgh and the Lothians.

  • We started with a very sad, new-build lawn that had suffered from a winter of neglect. After just a few months on their treatment and maintenance plan, it has completely turned around and looks absolutely great. Davie and the team turn up without fail and nothing is ever too much bother.

  • Approached DSM having seen their page on Facebook – having been frustrated with the service provided by a competitor – I was desperate to try something new. Davie and his team promptly came to my property – identified the issue's and carried out a full treatment within a few days. My lawn has never looked so good & healthy – I have signed up to the treatment only plan for a few months and will continue…

Lawn Care in Bonnyrigg: the local detail

What Matters Here for Lawn Care in Bonnyrigg

The two towns

Bonnyrigg is really two towns now: the established streets around the centre with their settled gardens, and the growing estates at Hopefield and the southern edge. The old lawns need maintenance done well; the new ones often need rescuing from the ground they were laid on.

The new-build problem

Builder turf goes down fast and roots slow. Under it sits ground that site traffic compacted for two years, so water pools, roots stay shallow and the lawn thins by its second summer. The fix is mechanical first: open the ground with aeration, then rebuild density with seed and feed.

The season

Bonnyrigg sits in the Esk valley's milder run, so growth starts earlier than up the hill in Gorebridge or Penicuik. That means earlier first cuts, an earlier spring feed, and a longer autumn window for scarifying and overseeding before the soil cools.

The round

We are through Bonnyrigg constantly: it shares our core round with Dalkeith, Eskbank and Lasswade. New customers usually get slotted in within the week, and the first visit is always a walk over the lawn and a straight verdict.
