Lawn Care, Done Properly
Lawn care in our home town. Treatments, mowing and full renovations across Dalkeith, from Woodburn to the country park side, with free assessments and no contracts.
What You Need To Know About Lawn Care In Dalkeith
Dalkeith is home ground for us, so there is not much of the town we have not mowed, fed or scarified at some point. The housing runs from solid older villas near the country park to newer estates out towards Woodburn and Thornybank, and the lawns vary just as much: some have been down for fifty years, others were laid on builder’s soil and have struggled ever since.
The older lawns here mostly need air and food. Compaction builds up over decades of use, so aeration and a proper feeding rhythm usually wake them up without any drama. The newer ones often need more of a reset: scarifying out the thatch, overseeding, and a season of steady care.
Because we are based on this side of Midlothian, Dalkeith sits on our busiest rounds. That means flexible slots, quick starts and no call-out reluctance if something needs a second look between visits.

Everything Your Lawn Needs
Build the plan around what your lawn actually needs. Most customers are on the regular treatment and maintenance plan; renovations and one-off fixes are priced after a quick look.
Seasonal fertilisers applied at the right time of year to feed your lawn and promote strong, healthy root growth from the ground up.
Targeted treatments to tackle common lawn weeds and suppress moss growth, applied at the right points throughout the year.
Mechanical removal of thatch and moss buildup that chokes your grass. Essential for any lawn that has gone without treatment for a season or more.
Core and spike aeration to relieve compaction, improve drainage, and allow nutrients to reach the root zone more effectively.
Seeding of thin, worn, or bare patches to restore density and give your lawn an even, consistent finish across the whole surface area.
Topdressing and soil treatment to improve the growing environment beneath the surface, tailored to your specific soil type and condition.
Davie’s Advice before you spend a penny
What Davie tells every customer, whether they book us or not. Free to ignore, but he’s usually right.

Never take more than a third off in one cut.
Unless shade and compaction are dealt with, it comes back.
A daily sprinkle grows shallow roots.
Fertiliser in a drought does more harm than good.
Blunt ones tear the grass and it browns at the tips. Or let us worry about it.
Scarify, aerate and overseed while the soil is still warm.
Got a question these don't cover? Ask Davie. He answers everything himself.
Why Folk Round Here Stick With DSM
Here’s what keeps customers on the round year after year.
You get the same faces on a fixed day every visit, not whoever happens to be free that week.
Quoted once, in writing, after we've seen the lawn. No meters running and no surprise extras.
Stay because the lawn looks good, not because a bit of paper says you have to.
Public liability cover on every job, and we're happy to show you the certificate.
Green waste taken away or composted on site, whichever suits you. Nothing left on the path.
Based here, working the same towns every week. We live here too.
What Dalkeith Folk Say About Us
Real reviews from Lawn Care customers around Edinburgh and the Lothians.
We started with a very sad, new-build lawn that had suffered from a winter of neglect. After just a few months on their treatment and maintenance plan, it has completely turned around and looks absolutely great. Davie and the team turn up without fail and nothing is ever too much bother.
Approached DSM having seen their page on Facebook – having been frustrated with the service provided by a competitor – I was desperate to try something new. Davie and his team promptly came to my property – identified the issue's and carried out a full treatment within a few days. My lawn has never looked so good & healthy – I have signed up to the treatment only plan for a few months and will continue…
Excellent service from Davie and his team. I’ve seen a massive improvement in my lawn. Highlight recommend the treatment and maintenance package that Davie offers.

This Dalkeith lawn was full of coarse grasses and mare's tail, one of the hardest weeds to shift once it takes hold. Rather than lift the lawn and re-turf, we killed the whole thing off, scarified the life out of it, then topdressed and overseeded. Four weeks on it had come back as a brand new lawn, at around a quarter of what a full re-turf would have cost.

Lawn CareWe took this Gilmerton lawn over in April. The front garden was patchy, thin and full of weeds. Since then it has been on our treatment and maintenance plan: feeding, weed control and regular cutting through the season. A few months later it is thick, green and striped. Plans run over 12 months, and it is never too late in the year to start.

Lawn CareThis Prestonpans garden is on our treatment and maintenance plan, front and back. When the lawns need feeding, we feed them. When we see weeds, we spray them. And when the grass is growing too fast, we slow it down so it doesn't race away between cuts. Both lawns are thick, dark green and striped now, and they'll stay that way as long as the plan keeps running.

Lawn CareThis Wallyford lawn came to us rough and uneven, coarse tufts and clumps sitting proud with thin ground showing between them. It's on our treatment and maintenance plan now: fed on a schedule, weeds treated as they appear, and cut regularly so the growth stays even instead of running away in lumps. It's level and striped from end to end these days, and the plan is what keeps it there.

Dalkeith's gardens run the full spread: Victorian villas with old hedges and long lawns near the country park, solid semis through Woodburn, and newer plots on the town's edges. No two streets want quite the same treatment, which suits us, because we are in most of them every week anyway.
Most of the town sits on the heavy side of Midlothian's clay. It grows good grass when it is kept open, but it compacts under family use and winter water sits in it. Aeration is the quiet hero here: once air is back in the ground, feed and seed actually get somewhere.
Streets near the country park live under big mature trees, and their lawns carry the usual costs: shade, autumn leaf drop and moss creeping in from the north-facing corners. We scarify harder and time autumn clear-ups tighter on those streets than we do out in the open.
This is our home town, so Dalkeith slots are the easiest to get on the whole patch. Fortnightly cuts, seasonal treatments and one-off renovations all run from here, and if something looks off between visits you will not wait long for someone to swing by.
